CANNABINOID SYSTEM was discovered in 1997 and has been research since then till today. A search on endocannabinoid system on pubmed results in 9000+ papers.
Twenty-four years of pharmacological research separate the identification of the main psychoactive constituent of Cannabis sativa preparations, (−)-Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) (Gaoni and Mechoulam, 1964; Mechoulam, 1970) from the characterization (Devane et al., 1988; Herkenham et al., 1991) and molecular cloning (Matsuda et al., 1990) of its cellular target, the cannabinoid CB1 receptor (CB1). The extensive research on the structure and activity of the natural constituents of Cannabis (termed cannabinoids) and the development of synthetic compounds with high potency and stereoselectivity have led to the identification of the main physiological functions that are modulated by this new class of drugs (Howlett et al., 1990). ![]() Cannabinoid system consists of CB1R and CB2R with their endogenous ligands AEA, 2AG, PEA, NE, Oleates and Serines, which act to maintain homeostasis in all the systems of living beings right from water kingdom to humans. Modulation of this Cannabinoid System provides the various effects caused by cannabis oils in humans. Oils derived from cannabis acts on this system thereby modulating each and every system in our body. CB1R are present on nerve cells in CNS. CB2R are present in immune cells. Stimulation and inhibition can occur depending on the dosages of these cannabis oils and careful intake is advised. Lower doses is found to stimulate this system and higher doses can inhibit. Reference is from this detailed study for physicians. Exogenous Cannabinoids are CBC, CBD, CBG, CBDV, THC, THCV, and their acidic equivalents that are present before decarboxylation of the plant. Endogenous Cannabinoids are AEA, 2AG, PEA, NE, NADA, etc. Synthetic Cannabinoids. How to stimulate Cannabinoid System? {Clinical interventions characterized as "complementary and alternative medicine" also upregulate the eCB system: massage and manipulation, acupuncture, dietary supplements, and herbal medicines. Lifestyle modification (diet, weight control, exercise, and the use of psychoactive substances--alcohol, tobacco, coffee, cannabis) also modulate the eCB system.} ...eCB is endocannabinoid system. Upregulate means to stimulate. We provide patient and physician education and also consultation guiding to a better health and disease management. |
